Created in the Netherlands by Dre Hester Le Riche, Tovertafel - magic table in Dutch, is a care solution for people living with Alzheimer's or cognitive disorders based on research and co-creation with collective living environments.
Tovertafel projects interactive games and vibrant images onto a surface. The various games react to senior players' movements and have one thing in common: they have a useful purpose in addition to providing joy and entertainment.

Our team loved testing the Tovertafel, it's a fascinating console and has stimulated the interest of everyone at Eugeria. We brought it to several residents and were amazed at how easily they adopted the games on the Tovertafel. Witnessing the direct effects of the games on people with cognitive disabilities during our demonstrations has brought us great emotion and moments of sharing with the residents.

The Tovertafel is mainly used with our clientele with advanced neurocognitive disorders. We observe that the use of the interactive table creates a soothing effect in the user when it is put to use. Users appreciate the bright yet soothing colors of the games. Despite the apathy of some, everyone is engaged in the games. The diversity of the games means that everyone can enjoy the Tovertafel. We'd also like to highlight the judicious choice of music in some of your games, allowing our residents to recall fond memories.

Our residents' experience with the Tovertafel is remarkable, especially for those with major neurocognitive disorders. I can see the benefits for residents with BPSD. The table is used at different times, whether during the day, evening or at night. We adjust according to the timing of behaviors. The distraction/entertainment provided by the Tovertafel is often enough to reduce or eliminate BPSD at that moment.
My residents on the Dementia unit are absolutely infatuated with the Tovertafel. We've noted a marked decline in sundowning behaviors related to boredom and lack of stimulation, so we have been utilizing it often during the evening...I'm excited to be able to move the device around our building and see what benefits it brings to some of our higher-functioning folks as well.

As health care professionals, we have many roles to play. Whether it is completing daily tasks, reducing residents' anxiety or keeping our skills up to date. We received training for the Tovertafel, a simple and efficient process that allowed us to acquire new knowledge and skills to help residents with a loss of autonomy. (To reduce anxiety and more).
I wanted to express our satisfaction with the training and the tool. An outstanding experience for the residents: laughter, competitive residents, amazement and many other emotions.

The table is used more and more here at Champlain. I have a resident who is always negative and never participates in our activities. She was curious the first time and quietly approached the table, and after several weeks, she participates all the time. She always highlights the Magic Table activity on the calendar because she doesn't want to miss it!
